Cliff Richard and Olivia Newton John

YouTube
"Suddenly" is a beautiful love song by Cliff Richard and Olivia Newton John. I love both singers. I miss hearing them and wish that they were still singing and making records together. We need their kind of love songs today because nobody is singing about love anymore. We need to hear the voices of love songs. Where did it all go. Well, at least, we can look back musically and listen.

Club Nouveau - Jealousy

From YouTube
Club Nouveau
There was another song in the 80's by a group called Club Nouveau. They made a song called Jealousy. That was a great song to make because that is a big problem that is in our world today. I believe that it always will be until the Lord come.

Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Timex Social Club - Rumors

From YouTube
Timex Social Club
Do you remember Timex Social Club's song rumors? It's still new today. This song was from the 80's and people are still spreading rumors. I don't think that many people got the message or learned a lesson from this song. It ought to be played on the radio everyday. Ears have not heard this song enough and there are people ignoring scriptures.

Exodus 23:1 Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

Archie Bell and The Drells - Old People

Archie Bell & The Drells / There's Gonna Be A Showdown There is a special song that I have been looking for for a long time. It is titled, OLD PEOPLE. I never knew who sung it. First, I thought that it might had been the OJays. When I tried to find the OJays with that title of the song, there was no such thing. I looked up every group that sounded something like the group that sung it which was Archie Bell & The Drells. Finally I found them on YouTube. I saw the title as I typed Mcfadden and Whitehead. I thought they might have sung it. Archie Bell and The Drells popped right up thanks to every person that uploaded this song.

I will never forget Maxine Nightingale. I remember her by the hit song, Lead Me On, back in 1979. There were a lot of women and young girls singing this song when I was growing up. I do not remember ever seeing Maxine's face, but I always knew the song when I heard it.

Janet Jackson - Say You Do

YouTube
It was Solid Gold that I saw Janet Jackson perform her hit single, Say You Do. It was the year of 1983. Before DVDs, there was VCR and VHS tapes. I remember recording Janet from Solid Gold and inviting my friends over to watch her with me. We loved Michael Jackson's baby sister. We thought she had great talent. My mother thought she sung a good song when she sung, Say You Do. Me and my friends enjoyed singing and wanted to be singers like Janet when we were growing up. We tried to get together and write songs like the one Janet sung. We were teenage girls with a dream. However, none of us are singers or what we dreamed of becoming. I miss the days when we sat back and watched Janet Jackson and had our dreams.

Michael Jackson's Blame It on the Boogie

From YouTube
Michael Jackson sings, "Blame It on the Boogie". Ministers in church preached about the boogie. They had a way of making you feel so bad in those days about dancing. I remember the days when everybody was dancing. Some folks danced at the clubs and some danced at home. I remember when everybody formed a Soul Train line, and I remember Michael Jackson's song about the boogie. This song made a lot of people boogie. The lyrics to the song was very well understood.

Grandmaster Flash - The Message

From YouTube
In 1982, I remember Grandmaster Flash, The Message. I would listen to that rap over and over again.  Melle Mel was my favorite rapper. They were also smooth and Grandmaster Flash was the DJ. There isn't a rap group like them to this very day.

Bee Gees-Alone / My Lover's Prayer

In 1997, the Bee Gees came back with another song titled Alone. It wasn't the disco like you heard in the 70's, but I could tell that they still had the knack for writing great songs. There voices still sound great.

And Robin Gibb sings My Lover's Prayer with Alistair Griffin. It's a beautiful song and I think it was also recorded with the Bee Gees on Still Waters Album.

Heavy D _ Mr. Big Stuff

The thing that I love about rap music in the 80's is the rappers like Heavy D brought back oldies. That is how some of us learned about some of the old tunes. Mr. Big Stuff was sung by a lady named Jean knight. I knew before I had heard of Heavy D's version in rap. The oldie tunes and rap music in the 80's blended well together in sound. To me, rap was the best in the 80's.

Irene Cara What a Feeling

YouTube
Irene Cara's, "What a Feeling", is a song that taught me what singing is all about. Before I could get to the end of the song, my stomach muscles would be so tired. I would stop singing. My mother would say, "Gail, keep singing that song. It's bringing out your true voice."  My mother would make me stand up and sing.

Irene Cara Talks about Fame

From YouTube
Do you remember the television show, Fame? There are things we didn't know and things we didn't see. I use to often wonder why Irene Cara had suddenly disappeared from the show.

Irene Cara_Fame

From YouTube
Do you remember Irene Cara's hit song Fame? It was a song in the 80's and was a theme for the TV series Fame. Everybody loved the song and everybody loved the TV series. To me, Irene's song was a masterpiece written by Michael Gore (music) and Dean Pitchford (lyrics) . It's a song that I still love to hear after all of the years that has gone by. It's a great song thanks to the writers and performer.

Unsung Documentary - The Sylvers

From YouTube
Does anyone remember the Sylvers? I do! The Sylvers were a popular family group in the 1970's. I remember their hit songs, High School Dance and Boogie Fever. The group sounded a lot like the Jackson Five. They picked up where the Jacksons left off. The Sylvers were from Memphis, Tennessee. I remember the Sylvers when I was a little girl, and I do not think they lasted as long as the Jackson's did. Their music was great.  The Sylvers were a very talented group and I think radio stations that play oldies should
 remember to play their songs.

Whitney Houston Sings Yes Jesus Loves Me

One night after Whitney's death, I went to sleep with her on my mind. I kept seeing her in my dreams. I heard her voice saying, "Don't let anyone trouble you. Go on and lift the Savior up though they are not impressed. Keep on thanking Jesus." The message is a true message. That's why I have posted this video of Whitney Houston from GodTube. She is singing Yes Jesus Loves Me.

We only know and see what television tells us about Whitney's death, but we don't know all of the reasons why and how Whitney was on drugs. There may have been a number of things going on in Whitney's life that we do not know or see. There is one thing that I know. God sees everything, and God knows everything. He is the Judge. Yes, Whitney was on drugs, but that does not make her a bad person. It can happen to any of us. It can happen just by taking medication for sickness. Life is hard sometimes and there are things in this life that we might not be able to bare. Never look down on anyone. For those of us that have never used drugs, we should pray that we are strong enough to stay away from drugs. We should pray for others because Satan is nobody's friend. He is all about evil and will reward you nothing but evil. He doesn't want any of us to look better than him. It does not matter if you work for him. God is not the enemy. Sometimes he just takes us away from the evil to save us.

Candi Staton - Young Hearts Run Free

From YouTube
It was a million times in the past that I heard this song by Candi Staton. It was titled, Young Hearts Run Free. It was a disco hit in 1976. I heard the tune and the melody forever, but I never understood the words. In 1976 I was probably about 5 or 6 years old. I loved the song when I heard it, and was very quiet whenever it came on the radio. Yet, I could not sing a single word because the words were not clear to me. As I grew older, the words became clearer to my ears. I would write down the words the best that I could and sing the song with the record. Today, I found out that all of the words I thought I was hearing was right. The words are exactly the way I have always felt.

What's the sense in sharing, this one and only life
Ending up, just another lost and lonely wife
You count up the years, and they will be filled with tears.
Love only breaks up, to start over again
You'll get the babies, but you won't have your man
While he is busy loving, every woman that he can.
Say I'm gonna leave a hundred times a day
It's easier said than done
When you just can't break away ("When you just can't break away")

CHORUS

Ohhhhh
Young hearts, run free
Never be hung up, hung up like my man and me ("my man and me")
Oooooh
Young hearts, to yourself be true
Don't be no fool when
Love really don't love you ("don't love you")

It's high time now just one crack at life
Who wants to live in, trouble and strife
My mind must be free, to learn all I can about me.
I'm gonna love me, for the rest of my days
Encourage the babies every time they say
Self preservation is what's really going on today.
Say Im gonna turn loose a thousand times a day
How can I turn loose
When I just can't break away? ("When I just can't break away")

CHORUS

John Cougar-Jack and Diane

From YouTube
Back in the 80's, Jack and Diane was a pretty popular song. I remember the song from The Young and the Restless. There was a character named Jack and a character named Diane on that soap opra. Jack was a married man cheating on his wife. He was with Diane. That's when they played John Cougar's song. I never will forget it. It was MTV that showed the video of the song. I thought it was a cool video and song. I loved the beat and tune.
