Candi Staton - Young Hearts Run Free

From YouTube
It was a million times in the past that I heard this song by Candi Staton. It was titled, Young Hearts Run Free. It was a disco hit in 1976. I heard the tune and the melody forever, but I never understood the words. In 1976 I was probably about 5 or 6 years old. I loved the song when I heard it, and was very quiet whenever it came on the radio. Yet, I could not sing a single word because the words were not clear to me. As I grew older, the words became clearer to my ears. I would write down the words the best that I could and sing the song with the record. Today, I found out that all of the words I thought I was hearing was right. The words are exactly the way I have always felt.

What's the sense in sharing, this one and only life
Ending up, just another lost and lonely wife
You count up the years, and they will be filled with tears.
Love only breaks up, to start over again
You'll get the babies, but you won't have your man
While he is busy loving, every woman that he can.
Say I'm gonna leave a hundred times a day
It's easier said than done
When you just can't break away ("When you just can't break away")

CHORUS

Ohhhhh
Young hearts, run free
Never be hung up, hung up like my man and me ("my man and me")
Oooooh
Young hearts, to yourself be true
Don't be no fool when
Love really don't love you ("don't love you")

It's high time now just one crack at life
Who wants to live in, trouble and strife
My mind must be free, to learn all I can about me.
I'm gonna love me, for the rest of my days
Encourage the babies every time they say
Self preservation is what's really going on today.
Say Im gonna turn loose a thousand times a day
How can I turn loose
When I just can't break away? ("When I just can't break away")

CHORUS
