Selena was a Mexican American singer born in 1971. That was the year that I was born. She liked singing songs of the 70's like "I will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. Selena is an outstanding singer. Just when I was falling in love with her music in the 90's, she had to leave us. She was the Yvonne Elliman of the 90's for a short time. My favorite song by Selena is, "I'm Getting Use to you". She had a style of her own and she had a strong beautiful voice. Selena had the kind of musical style that could last for years and years. People are still playing her songs just like people are still playing the oldies.

Yvonne Elliman_If I Can't Have You

I was crazy about this song growing up. I remember everybody singing it. My mother who was strictly religious who hardly sung the blues, my mother's younger sister, my father, and me. The song has music that makes you recoginize it right away. The music is powerful and real. I love the violins and drums. It's not like the fake music from rythm machines. It's not just a beat. Without the violins, this song is dead. The violins added something unique to the song. It raises the dead. In other words, it is a song that wakes you up and makes you want to dance.

Doobie Brothers_What a Fool Believes

Many times when I was riding in my mother and father's old 1978 or 79 blue Chevrolet Impala with no FM radio, I would listen to AM. There was white and soul music hits on one station. I loved hearing the Doobie Brothers. I sat in the back seat listening and did not understand hardly any of the words that Michael Mcdonnald was singing. Whatever he was singing, I loved hearing it.

It's great seeing these guys sing together. I loved listening to their music all of my life.

Barry White_You're The First-My Last
I remember my father playing Barry White on the old 8 track tapes. My mother didn't like Barry's music, so I don't remember much of it. I only remember talking and slow jam. I didn't like what my father played of him either. As I got older, that's when I began to hear some of Barry's greatest hits. "You're the First, My Last, My Everything" is a beautiful song. I love the violins and how they start the music off. When I first heard the song, I fell in love with it right away.
